A cordless liquid heating appliance comprising a vessel part provided with an electric heating element and a power base 60 for connection to an electrical supply, the vessel part and the power base 60 having cooperating electrical connectors 66 enabling the heating element to be powered via the base 60 when the vessel part is operatively associated with the base 60, the appliance having, in the vessel part, a control including switch means coupled to the heating element for determining the supply of electrical power to the heating element, a first thermally-responsive actuator responsive to boiling of liquid in the vessel for operating the switch means, a second thermally-responsive actuator responsive to the liquid attaining a predetermined sub-boiling temperature for operating the switch means, and means 62, 63 enabling a selection to be made as to which of the first and second thermally-responsive actuators will operate the switch means. |
