<p>In a method for applying a liquid to pasty coating medium to a fibrous sheet (1) moving in a direction (L), using a curtain coating device (3) to deliver a free-falling curtain of medium, moved by shear force, directly onto the sheet surface in an impact line (P) on a free train or supported region of sheet, the front edges (1.1, 1.2) of the sheet are wetted with fluid before the curtain strikes the sheet surface. An independent claim is included for corresponding coating apparatus, including at least one fluid delivery device (4) which delivers fluid jets (4.1, 4.2) to wet the front edges of the sheet before the curtain strikes the sheet surface.</p> |
