The device has a shock wave source for emitting a shock wave and an ultrasonic unit for producing image information by transmission and reception of ultrasonic. The ultrasonic unit is provided for receiving reflected and/or scattered portions of the shock wave for production of the image information. An image information production of a shock wave focus is possible with the ultrasonic unit. The shock wave focus is recorded in the ultrasonic unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing image information for a shock wave therapy.
