The apparatus 10 has a casing 12 with a cavity 30 formed in the casing for receiving a user's hands. A motor, powering a fan 40 is located inside the casing for creating an airflow which is conducted via ducts 50, 52 to a plurality of openings 60, 62 located on the front and rear edges 32a, 32b of the cavity and arranged to direct the airflow transversely across it. The shape defined by the front and rear edges defines a cavity entrance 32 that is such that when the user's hands are introduced in the cavity, the distance between the hands and the nearest openings are substantially uniform. This is achieved by providing a front edge having two curves 33 and a straight rear edge 32a, which produces a cavity entrance where the distance between the front and rear edges varies along the length of the entrance to follow approximately the contour of a typical user's hands. The nozzles 54 of the front and rear edges may have openings of different size (W1, W2, Figs.5 and 6), so as to provide more airflow to the areas of the hand that are generally wetter. The nozzles can also be slot-like openings. |
