The equipment and method for fitting a back on a carpet involve a binder (4,5) medium applied to the rear side of a carpet where it is thermically activated. A pressure roller (13,14,15,16) is rotated by a drive against a pressure surface (9). The carpet (1), during or after the thermic activation of the binder medium, is displaced in relation to the pressure roller which is pressed onto the upper side of the carpet (1) rotated by the drive. This causes the binder medium to penetrate the carpet structure and to form a layer (23) connected with it. The binder medium is preferably a powder mixture based on a thermal hardener and a thermal plastic.
