A method for detecting an error of a coolant temperature sensor of a vehicle is provided to improve accuracy of detection by detecting error of the coolant temperature sensor during engine start on the basis of a coolant temperature signal and an intake air temperature signal and judging whether an engine is under a cold starting or a long period idling on the basis of a vehicle speed signal and an intake air temperature signal. A method for detecting an error of a coolant temperature sensor of a vehicle comprises a step(103,107) of calculating a difference between an intake air temperature signal received during engine start and a first predetermined value, comparing the difference with a coolant temperature signal, and judging as an error of the coolant temperature sensor if the coolant temperature signal is smaller than the difference; a step(109 to 117) of detecting an error of the coolant temperature sensor on the basis of the coolant model temperature calculated on the basis of a table value which is set in accordance with engine load and variation of coolant temperature signals, if the intake air temperature signal is lower than a second predetermined value and smaller than the intake air temperature signal of the previous engine start, engine warming-up is finished, and the coolant temperature signal is higher than a third predetermined value; and a step of detecting an error of the coolant temperature sensor on the basis of the variation of the intake air temperature signal, if it is not a cold starting of an engine or a long period engine idling. |
