A locking apparatus of a sliding door is provided to push and open the sliding door to the side and conveniently release the locked condition of the sliding door by pulling the knob and lifting down the operating piece. A locking apparatus of a sliding door is composed of a pusher(17) formed with chin and neck parts(17a,17b) at a housing(12) fixed in the sliding door and horizontally installed to appear and disappear by recovery force of a first elastic member(18); and an operating piece(19) formed with a hook(22) and a cut part(23a) at the lower side of the pusher and mounted to be lifted up and down by recovery force of a second elastic member(20). The operating piece is lifted up and the hook is hung/locked at a striker when the pusher presses and pushes the first elastic member at the jamb and the cut part of the operating piece is placed at the neck part of the pusher. A knob case having a space is fixed at one side of the sliding door. The recovery force is transferred to the operating piece by an operating piece pushing unit, and the operating piece presses the second elastic member and releases the locked condition of the door.
