<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light guide plate and a backlight including the light guide plate. <P>SOLUTION: The light guide plate 52 includes a flat light guide substrate 520 and a sub-wave length structure 527 formed on an light emitting plane. The light guide substrate 520 has a light incident plane 521, the light emitting plane 522 adjoining the light incident plane 521, a light reflection plane 523 disposed opposite to the light emitting plane 522. Both of the stress strains acting to the light guide substrate 520 mutually intersect at right angle, and the direction of the one of the stresses has an angle of 0 degree to 90 degree to the light incident plane 521. The phase difference δ of light caused by the both stress strains satisfies the following equation δ=2πCd/λ wherein δ designates phase difference, d designates the thickness of the light guide plate 520, C designates the optical constant of a relative stress, Δσdesignates a stress difference, and λ designates the wave length of light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
