PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable vane synchronizing mechanism reduced in weight and not interfering with the other external parts even if the outer diameter of a compressor part is not increased. SOLUTION: This variable vane assembly comprises an inner diameter side vane shroud 14 storing a synchronizingly rotating mechanism in the row of variable vanes 26, 28. The inner diameter side vane shroud 14 comprises a gear groove extending in the circumferential direction. The variable vanes 26, 28 are rotatably installed on the vane shroud 14 at its inner diameter side end part. The variable vanes 26, 28 comprise vane gears 34 at the inner diameter side end parts, and the gears are rotatable in the gear groove. Idle gears 36 are disposed between the vane gears 34. When one drive vane 26 in the train of vanes is rotated by an actuator 18, the remaining driven vanes 28 are rotated by a same amount by the synchronizing mechanism formed of a gear train comprising the vane gears 34 and the idle gears 36.
