[Class 39 (i)] A planar cathode mounting comprises a filament wire 4 disposed against one surface of a flat mica plate 1 so as to span an opening in the plate and supported by metal parts in the same plane as and secured to,the mica plate. Preferably two mica plates are used, as in the Figure, with the filament disposed between them. The filament may be supported at one end by a spring 6.
