<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the display of a transparent display device inconspicuous according to conditions. <P>SOLUTION: A special pattern display device 30 is constituted of a transparent EL display device 31 and a liquid crystal shutter 32 behind it, it is transparent when the liquid crystal shutter 32 is open and special patterns are not displayed, the display of the special patterns is not conspicuous since the liquid crystal shutter 32 is open and the background is transparent when the special patterns are just variably displayed or losing is displayed, and the special patterns are made conspicuous by closing the liquid crystal shutter 32 and improving contrast when the special patterns are turned to ready-to-win display.
