PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing device which has reduced latency time when the rotation of a paper feeder motor stops and shortened time required for printing process, and a method for controlling the printing device. SOLUTION: A controller accelerates the rotary speed of the paper feeder motor in step S101, and executes a hopper ascending process by constantly rotating the paper feeder motor at a target speed of a hopper ascending process in step S102. Further, in step S109, the controller accelerates the rotary speed of the paper feeder motor upon the decision that a continuous drive process is executed in step S103. Next, the controller executes a heading process by constantly rotating the paper feeder motor at a target speed of the hopper ascending process in step S107. Thus the hopper ascending process and the heading process can be executed without the stoppage of the rotation of the paper feeder motor between the individual processes. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
