The unit has a flash tube (1) and an ellipsoid-zoom reflector comprising a reflector cup (2), where the reflector is brought from a wide-angle position to a teleposition, by simultaneously increasing opening angles of transverse-sided reflector surfaces (5) of the cup and opening angles of longitudinal-sided reflector surfaces (3) of the cup and by decreasing distances of the tube from its crown line. The cup together with its front surfaces (4) is divided into two halves along its symmetry plane. The halves are pivotably supported along a vertex line of the cup.
