An electron emission source, a preparing method thereof, and an electron emission device employing the same are provided to lengthen a lifetime by forming a metal carbide coating layer on a surface of a carbon nano-tube or by forming a metal coating layer on a surface of the metal carbide. An electron emission source includes a surface coating layer. The surface coating layer is formed of metal or metal carbide formed from the combination of the metal or the combination. The metal has negative Gibbs free energy in a metal carbide forming reaction at temperature of 1500K and below. The metal carbide is one or more elements selected from a group including titanium carbide, zirconium carbide, hafnium carbide, tantalum carbide, niobium carbide, vanadium carbide, chrome carbide, molybdenum carbide, and tungsten carbide.
