A pharmaceutical composition for treating or preventing a neurological brain disease comprising xanthorrhizol is provided to inhibit oxidative and stimulant toxicity and apoptosis of brain cells, and reduce side effects. The pharmaceutical composition for treating or preventing a neurological brain disease comprises xanthorrhizol represented by the formula(I) or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts, wherein the xanthorrhizol is isolated from the extract of Curcuma xanthorrhiza, which is obtained by extracting Curcuma xanthorrhiza with water or C1-C6 organic solvent; and the applicable neurological brain diseases are selected from dementia, Parkinson's disease, cerebral apoplexy, Huntington's disease, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Pick's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson-ALS-dementia complex of Guam, Wilson's disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, mild cognitive impairment and epilepsy.
