<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic control device of an automatic transmission for a vehicle capable of specifying a failure occurrence part at the occurrence of a failure. <P>SOLUTION: When the nonestablishment of a predetermined shift stage corresponding to predetermined shift output is determined by a shift stage nonestablishment determining means 124 (S3), based on the determined result of an engaging hydraulic state determining means 122 (S4), a hydraulic friction engaging device which failed in engagement to cause the nonestablishment of the shift stage is specified by a specifying means 126 (S5, S6).
