PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform sound input on an address in a place search. SOLUTION: Generally, an address comprises a proper noun portion such as "Kasumigaseki, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo" and a house number portion such as "* - * - *" while data on house numbers are stored on an address-by-address basis in a storage device of a navigation device. The house number data are used to prevent any house numbers not existing actually from being inputted. The house number data include: (1) the maximum number MAX of house numbers; (2) the maximum value 1B of the first house number if the number of house numbers is two (unnecessary if the maximum number of house numbers is one); (3) the maximum value 1C of the first house number if the number of house numbers is three (unnecessary if the maximum number of house numbers is two or less); and (4) the maximum value 2B of the second house number if the number of house numbers is three (unnecessary if the number of house numbers is two or less).
