An optical access network system and a multicast communication method thereof are provided to realize an OLT of the optical access network system for realizing a multicast service without having deleterious influence on the communication band and communication quality for a unicast data packet. An OLT(Optical Line Terminal)(203) provided as a center side network element in an optical access network system(200) for connecting plural subscriber terminals to a network comprises the followings: a multicast control unit(212) having a multicast communication dedicated port for a multicast communication service connected to the network; and a plurality of packet data transmission and reception control units which have a unicast communication dedicated port for a unicast communication service connected to the network, respectively, and accommodate the plural subscriber terminals.
