A method for managing printing files stored in a printer and a printing system capable of easily managing the same are provided to enable a user to easily find the printing file stored in the printer and advance a printing operation by storing connection information including a storing position of the stored printing files. The printer(150) stores the printing files. A host device(100) generates the connection file matching attribute of the printing file stored to the printer and the attribute of an original file before conversion into the printing file, and stores the connection information. When the file is to be printed, the host device determines whether the attribute of the file is included in the connection information. If the attribute of the file is not included, the host device converts the file into the printing file and transfers the printing file to the printer, and includes the attribute of the converted printing file and the original file to the connection information in addition.
