A sensor drive apparatus and a method of driving a sensor are provided to reduce an unnecessary standby power by applying a power to the sensor only when a user turns on. A sensor drive apparatus includes a signal input unit(10) inputting a signal to operate electric home appliances, a control unit(20) controlling supply of a power to a sensor(40) according to the signal input from the signal input unit, and a sensor power supply unit(30) supplying an operation voltage to the sensor under the control of the control unit. If the signal input from the signal input unit is an operation stop signal, the control unit does not supply the operation voltage to the sensor.
