<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system capable of greatly absorbing jitter that may be generated between a transmitter and a receiver. <P>SOLUTION: In the communication system for transmitting stream data requiring real-time transmission between the transmitter and the receiver, the receiver 2 has a jitter absorber 24 for adjusting timing for reading packets accumulated in a reception buffer 25, according to the amount of accumulation of packets in the reception buffer 25 and a communication state evaluated by a communication state evaluation section 26.
