PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment furnace for stably producing a high-performance carbon fiber. SOLUTION: The heat treatment furnace 2 has a plurality of rollers 12a, 12b, 12c, 12d, 12e and 12f arranged inside and outside the furnace, in which a tension detection means is connected to the bearing of at least one of the rollers, the roller is a tension sensor for detecting a tension applied to a fiber 4 and at least one of the rollers 12a, 12b, 12c, 12d, 12e and 12f is a drive roller for adjusting a tension and a tension control roller 20 which receives a detected tension signal from the tension detection means 14, converts the detected tension signal into the output control signal of the rotational speed of the drive roller on the basis of the value of the detected tension signal and controls the output of the rotational speed of the drive roller by the output control signal.
