The device has an electronic control unit (1) controlling a driving mechanism and including an initialization function for setting a stepping motor of the mechanism at an initial position. The initialization function includes function for detecting a current positional angle of the motor and rotating motor in a bumping direction at a high speed until a reference angle is reached, when the positional angle is greater than the reference angle. The motor is rotated to a bumped position at an initial number of steps at a low speed after the reference angle is reached. The control unit controls the driving mechanism to perform a deflection of the emitting direction of a lamp. The motor is rotated in a reverse direction at a predetermined number of steps and the initial position is set after the bumped position is reached. An independent claim is also included for an emitting direction controlling method for a lamp.
