<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-repellent aqueous curable composition with respect to a curable composition with improved resistance to water absorption, a method for using the composition as a binder for fibrous substrates and composites, and products produced by such a method. <P>SOLUTION: A water-repellent curable composition is provided, comprising (i) an one or more poly-acids containing at least two carboxylic acid groups, acid anhydride groups or salts thereof, (ii) one or more polyols each containing at least two hydroxy groups, (iii) an water-proofing agent such as a 5-30C alk(en)yl 2-hydroxyethyl(alk(en))amide and (iv) optionally, one or more phosphorus-containing promoters. This composition provides concentrates dilutable with water to prepare a thermosetting aqueous binder composition. Further, there is provided a method for treating or contacting substrates chosen from nonwoven fabrics, woven fabrics and composites, such as glass fiber substrates with the thermosetting aqueous binder composition, and drying and curing, as well as water-resistant products produced thereby. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
