PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for short optical pulse generation that compensates tertiary group speed dispersion (GVD) of a compressor to compress a pulse width almost to a transform limit (TL). SOLUTION: The device for short optical pulse generation has a short optical pulse light source 1, an adjusting means 2 of adjusting the intensity of a short optical pulse, a fiber expander 3 which receives the short optical pulse and projects an expanded short optical pulse, and the compressor 5 which receives the short optical pulse and projects a compressed short optical pulse, and is characterized in that the adjusting means 2 is a means of adjusting the intensity of the short optical pulse made incident on the fiber expander 3 so as to compensate the tertiary group speed variance of the compressor 5.
