PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized, low-cost radiation detector which can detect gamma rays of 20 keV or higher. SOLUTION: The radiation detector is provided with, as a means for ensuring energy characteristics of gamma rays in the lowest energy region, a metallic filter 13a as a metallic filter placed at the front of a radiation detection element 12 for detecting low-energy gamma rays of 50 keV or higher and close thereto with a predetermined sensitivity. The metallic filter 13a is provided with a through hole 131 having an area nearly a twentieth part of the area of a radiation-sensitive part 121 of the radiation detection element 12. Replacing the through hole with a tapered hole, a thin-walled part, or a based tapered hole is effective. Providing them in a plurality of numbers is also effective. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
