PLATE GLASS CONVERTIBLE INTO CERAMIC BY FLOAT METHOD AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a float process for a crystallizable glass having a thickness less than the equilibrium thickness and a correspondent float glass. SOLUTION: In the method for making the plate glass convertible into a glass ceramic, a glass strip is drawn to a thickness below the equilibrium thickness and is cooled from a temperature at which the crystal growth rate in the crystallizable glass is at its maximum (KGmax) to another temperature at which practically no more crystal growth occurs (UEG) with a cooling rate according to a formula in a figure. In the formula in the figure, KR expresses the cooling rate°C/min and KGmaxexpresses the maximum crystal growth rateμm/min. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
