A method and an apparatus for correcting a color temperature according to the peripheral brightness are provided to enhance vividness of a displayed image by maintaining optimum brightness of the displayed image. An apparatus for correcting a color temperature according to the peripheral brightness includes a photo sensor(110), a controller(120), and a display unit(130). The photo sensor measures the peripheral brightness. The controller generates a control signal for compensating for a predetermined color temperature corresponding to the peripheral brightness. The display unit includes plural LEDs for forming LED(Light Emitting Diode) backlights having different color temperatures, and drives the LEDs corresponding to the control signal.
