<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device, having an increased freedom degree of the operating algorithm of a PLL for horizontal synchronization, which is capable of supplying digital phase information of a horizontal synchronization signal to the PLL for horizontal synchronization. <P>SOLUTION: The invention comprises slew rate control parts 18 and 19 for converting the edge waveform of a horizontal synchronization signal to a slew rate signal of an inclined waveform, selectors 2(1) and 2(2) which are connected to the input side of analog/digital converters 5(1) and 5(2), and makes the analog/digital converters 5(1) and 5(2) selectively input analog picture signal or a slew rate signal, and a numerical value calculation part 7 for quantifying the edge timing of the slew rate signal digitalized by the analog/digital converters 5(1) and 5(2).
