PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus and a copying machine capable of properly managing the order of pages when information indicating the order of pages is to be recorded into an IC chip mounted on a record sheet such as a recording paper, etc.

SOLUTION: A page information acquiring unit 301 is designed to acquire page information recorded in the IC chip mounted on the record sheet to be conveyed by an ADF10 via an IC chip reading unit 111, and a page order determining unit 302 is designed to determine whether or not the record sheets are arranged in the order of pages which are recorded in the IC chip. A page order control unit 305 is designed to control the page information recorded in the IC chip to be rewritten into the content indicating the order of being read by the ADF10 via an IC chip writing unit 112 when the record sheets are not arranged as the order of pages recorded in the IC chip.
