PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrodeless discharge lamp lighting system capable of assuring brightness even under light modulation control at low temperature. SOLUTION: The electrodeless discharge lamp lighting system of this invention comprises: an electrodeless discharge lamp 1; a light modulation inverter 3 connected to an AC power supply 11 and applying a high frequency voltage to the electrodeless discharge lamp 1; a controlling relay 5 receiving an AC light modulation signal and switching on/off; and a control substrate 4 converting the AC light modulation signal from the relay 5 to a direct current and applying a DC light modulation signal to the light modulation inverter 3. When the relay 5 is on, the control substrate 4 outputs the DC light modulation signal of 4 volts or higher, and the light modulation inverter 3 goes into an approximately 50% operation mode.
