PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set an optimal defocus value in an optical disk device and its defocus value setting method. SOLUTION: The optical disk device 1 is provided with a jitter value detection circuit 9 for detecting a jitter value which is set as a signal jitter value based on a signal read from an optical disk M, and a defocus value setting circuit 13 for adjusting a defocus value used for moving an objective lens 3b in an optical axis direction Df when the objective lens 3b is focused on an optical disk M based on the signal passed through the jitter value detection circuit 9, and performing defocus adjustment based on the defocus value, and an optimal defocus value is set.
