PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact projector apparatus using DMD elements with short optical length (between each DMD element and a projection lens) in which a cross dichroic prism is utilized, and to provide the DMD elements. SOLUTION: The cross dichroic prism 12 is disposed so that the direction of the intersection of two cross dichroic faces 16 of the cross dichroic prism 12 is horizontal, and the direction of the reflection of each of color light rays into which light is separated by the cross dichroic faces are vertical. In addition, each of the DMD elements 13 is disposed so that the lengthwise direction of the DMD element 13 coincides with the direction of the intersection. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
