PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knowledge creation device capable of reducing time necessary for parameter adjustment without spoiling the optimality of a parameter adjustment result, by appropriately reducing data to be used for knowledge creation. SOLUTION: This knowledge creation device includes a data selection portion 23 for selecting predetermined waveform data from among a plurality of waveform data belonging to the same kind (conforming articles) stored in a waveform database 21, and a knowledge creation means (a parameter optimization portion 24, a rule creation portion 25) for creating failure/no-failure judging knowledge by using at least the selected data being the waveform data selected by the data selection portion. The data selection portion has a function of selecting a predetermined number of boundary data belonging to its boundary region from waveform data of a plurality of conforming articles, and a function of selecting a part of waveform data from among waveform data not belonging to the boundary region as representative data, and those selected boundary data and representative data are combined to make selected data.
