A backlight assembly and an LCD having the same are provided to prevent the breakage of a light source due to movement of a light guiding plate, by supporting the light guiding plate using at least one fixing member disposed between the light guiding plate and the light source. A backlight assembly comprises a light guiding plate(120), a light source(111) disposed on a lateral surface of the light guiding plate, and a mold frame(100). The mold frame has at least one fixing member(200) formed between the light source and the light guiding plate, wherein the fixing member supports the light guiding plate. The fixing member is integrated into the mold frame in one body. The fixing member is capable of being located at a region corresponding to a lamp terminal part.
