PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a travel assisting device for an own vehicle that can suppress shocks that the own vehicle and an opposite vehicle have when colliding sideward. SOLUTION: The travel state of the own vehicle calculated by inputting signals of respective sensors of the own vehicle is collated with information on the opposite vehicle received through vehicle-to-vehicle communication and when a sideward collision between both the vehicles is predicted, the own vehicle is controlled to be accelerated or decelerated according to a direction wherein the opposite vehicle is steered to turn for avoidance, thereby avoiding a sideward collision between the own vehicle and opposite vehicle.
