PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the waste of recording time accompanying deceleration processing during optical disk recording, and to stabilize recording quality. SOLUTION: An error signal detection circuit 6 irradiates an optical disk with a laser beam to detect an error signal (tracking error signal or focus error signal) from its reflected light. An acceleration/deceleration determination circuit 7 reduces a recording speed when the amplitude of the detected error signal is larger than a first threshold Sa, and accelerates the recording speed when the amplitude of the error signal is smaller than a second threshold Sb. The recording speed is reduced when the amplitude of the error signal is larger than the first threshold Sa and a time width exceeding the threshold Sa is larger than a third threshold Ta, and accelerated when the amplitude is larger than the second threshold Sb and a time width exceeding the threshold Sb is smaller than a fourth threshold Tb.
