PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce noise such as a spike noise caused by a soft magnetic layer. SOLUTION: In a perpendicular magnetic recording medium 10 mounted on a hard disk drive of a perpendicular magnetic recording system and provided with a disk-like disk substrate 12, the soft magnetic layer 14 deposited on the disk substrate 12 and a perpendicular magnetic recording layer 16 deposited on the soft magnetic layer 14, direction distribution of easily magnetized axes of magnetic particles contained in each portion of the soft magnetic layer 14 is isotropic to each direction in the principal surface of the soft magnetic layer 14.
