PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an image which facilitates the retrieval of an intended image from a large volume of images by a simple operation. SOLUTION: This image display device comprises an image classification part classifying a plurality of images into a plurality of image groups by shooting dates; a category importance calculation part further classifying each image group to categories by shooting dates and events and calculating a degree of importance of each category; an image evaluation part calculating an evaluation value of each image contained in a category with high degree of importance; a typical image selection part selecting a typical image based on the evaluation value calculated by the image evaluation part; a typical image layout part determining a layout in time series for displaying typical images selected for each shooting date; a display part arranging and displaying the typical images according to the determined layout; and an operation part capable of selecting a notable typical image by scrolling the displayed typical images.
