PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber having an elastic modulus extremely superior to that of a conventional carbon fiber, and equal to or more than the so-called theoretical elastic modulus of graphite, in some cases, much more than the so-called theoretical elastic modulus. SOLUTION: The high-modulus carbon fiber has≥1,000Åspread La in the a-axis direction of a graphite crystal obtained from a powder X-ray diffraction spectrum, >104 ton/mm<SP>2</SP>tensile modulus and≥15μm fiber diameter.
