The method involves providing fuel consumption of a motor vehicle by a driver, and determining a driving route of the vehicle. A determination is made to find whether the fuel consumption is realizable for the driving route under which operating conditions of the vehicle. The operation conditions are outputted to the driver and are transferred to an engine control unit during approval of the driver to the operating conditions. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling a remaining range of a motor vehicle.
