The device has a receiver with a storage box e.g. post office box, for storing a mobile object e.g. letter. Sensors (7, 8) are assigned to the box, where the sensors sense a filling and/or emptying of the box and generate a detection signal. A coding electronics assigns a defined addressee to the generated signal as coded addressee signal (13). The addressee signal activates a receiving unit (16), where the addressee signal is decoded. The addressee signal is provided as readable and/or audible indications about the actual condition of the storage box on a display (17) of the receiving unit by an acoustic signal or as a message.
