MOLDED STARCH ARTICLE HAVING IMPROVED MOLDING PROPERTY

A starch composition which is significantly improved in plasticity and physical properties and is applicable to a wider variety of use can be produced in such a simple and economical manner that a hydrate of a specific inorganic salt and/or organic metal salt (i.e., an inorganic salt and/or organic metal salt having water of crystallization therein) is added to starch. Further, a starch composition having improved mechanical properties can be produced by cross-linking starch with a cross-linking agent in the presence of a water-soluble inorganic salt having water of crystallization therein or a water-soluble organic salt having water of crystallization therein.
