<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a register mark detecting device, by which a register mark given on a transparent web can be highly accurately detected under the condition that the development of fluttering of and cracking in a transparent web during its conveying is suppressed and, in addition, in which the staining and damaging of the surface of a reflecting plate during its conveying can be suppressed, and a printing unit equipped with the register mark detecting device. <P>SOLUTION: The register mark detecting device 10 comprises a register mark detecting sensor 11 having a light emitting part 11a and a light receiving part 11b. On the side opposite to the register mark detecting sensor 11 about the transparent web W, a plate-like member 12 having reflecting plates 12b to reflect the light irradiated from the light emitting part 11a and projecting parts 12c more projectingly provided to the register mark detecting sensor 11 side than the reflecting plates 12b is provided. In addition, the transparent web W during its conveying is not brought into contact with the reflecting plates 12b but abuts against the projecting parts 12c.
