PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus including a semiconductive seamless belt, comprising at least one or more layer, more particularly, the semiconductive seamless belt that has the shortcomings of the conventional transfer belt and intermediate transfer belt solved. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a movable image carrier or transfer material carrier and performs position detection with an optical sensor, consisting of at least a light source (light-emitting element) and a light-receiving element, where the transmittance of the image carrier or the transfer material carrier at the light source wavelength of the optical sensor is specified as being≥5.0%.
