PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an sound absorbing material very excellent in sound absorbing and sound insulation characteristics without deteriorating recycling property and molding property. SOLUTION: The sound absorbing material is a fiber structure in which inelastic crimped staple fiber and heat adhesive compound staple fiber of which the surface is provided thereon with a polymer as a thermal bonding component having a melting point lower by 40°C than the polymer composing the inelastic crimped staple fiber are fiber-blended so that a weight distribution ratio is 90/10 to 30/70; and there are scattered fixing points where the thermal bonding compound staple fibers are heat-welded while crossing each other, and fixing points where the thermal bonding compound staple fiber and the inelastic crimped staple fiber are heat-welded while crossing each other, and when the total number of the fibers arranged parallel to the thickness direction of the fiber structure body is expressed by (B) and the total number of the fibers arranged vertical to the thickness direction of the thickness of the fiber structure body is expressed by (A), a synthetic resin film is stuck on at least one surface of the fiber structure body of which B/A is not less than 1.5 to obtain the sound absorbing material.
