PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate cleaning of liquid developer that is adhered to the surface of an intermediate transfer body. SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus having the intermediate transfer body and using liquid developer, an application member (42) for applying liquid onto the intermediate transfer body is disposed between a secondary transfer position, where an image is transferred from the intermediate transfer body (20) to a transfer medium (25) and a cleaning position which is downstream of the secondary transfer position, in the direction of rotation of the intermediate transfer body and in which a cleaning member (23) is abutted against the intermediate transfer body.
