PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high purity aminomethylene phosphonic acid which is used in various applications such as chelating agents coordinating to many metals and decomposition preventive stabilizers for peroxides. SOLUTION: In the method of obtaining the aminomethylene phosphonic acid (for example, diethylenetriaminepentamethylene phosphonic acid) by reacting ammonia or an amine with an aldehyde and phosphorous acid under hydrochloric acid acidity conditions, hydrochloric acid having an Fe concentration of≤0.001 ppm is used to produce the high purity aminomethylene phosphonic acid.
