The method involves detecting the state of individual hot keys (21-24), and loading and executing an operating system-core program from a high-speed data storage (5) to a system memory (14) by a computer (100), when one of the keys is detected to be actuated. A set of multimedia device-drivers (174) and multimedia device-application programs (175), which are assigned to the actuated keys, is loaded and executed from the data storage. A multimedia device e.g. CD player, which is assigned to the actuated key, is activated.
