The microporous absorbent for e.g. gas storage has hydrothermal treatment of a salt containing a rear-earth element or internal transition elements, and terephthalic acid or a salt of this. It can be employed as a molecular sieve, a catalyst and as an e.g. hydrogen storage agent.
